Before You Start
BiteCount helps you track calories, macros, and other nutrition data toward a goal you set, and lets adults share recipes and milestones with other users. None of that makes BiteCount a substitute for medical care, and we want to be upfront about that before you use the app.
This Health Disclaimer explains what BiteCount is, what it is not, and what you are agreeing to by using it. It works alongside our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Community Guidelines - please read them all.
Here is the short version:
- BiteCount provides general nutrition and wellness information. It is not medical advice, medical nutrition therapy, or a diagnosis.
- Your calorie and macro targets are estimates calculated from the information you enter and widely accepted nutritional formulas - not a clinical assessment of your health.
- Posts, recipes, comments, and other content from other users, creators, and BiteCount are general information and not medical advice. We do not verify anyone's credentials.
- Talk to a doctor, registered dietitian, or other licensed healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet, especially before adjusting BiteCount's recommended calorie targets, following another person's approach, or trying any form of fasting.
- If you are under 18, pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication, managing a medical condition, or in recovery from or at risk of an eating disorder, please involve a healthcare professional before you start using BiteCount and while you continue using it.
- Changing your diet, body weight, or eating habits carries real risks. By using BiteCount, you accept responsibility for those risks and for the health decisions you make.
The longer version follows.

What BiteCount Is - and Is Not
IMPORTANT: BITECOUNT IS NOT A MEDICAL DEVICE, IS NOT INTENDED TO DIAGNOSE, TREAT, CURE, OR PREVENT ANY DISEASE OR MEDICAL CONDITION, AND DOES NOT PROVIDE MEDICAL ADVICE.
BiteCount is a general wellness and nutrition tracking tool intended for informational and educational purposes only. The calorie targets, macro recommendations, trends, and other outputs you see in the app, including any conversational insights from our AI coaching features, are estimates based on the information you provide and standard nutritional formulas. AI coaching responses are generated automatically and can be inaccurate or incomplete. Posts BiteCount publishes on Discover are general information for a broad audience. None of this is personalized medical advice, and none of it is based on a medical examination, a review of your health history, or an individualized diet review by a qualified professional.
BiteCount cannot guarantee that any target, recommendation, or piece of nutritional information in the app is accurate, complete, or appropriate for your individual circumstances. Nutritional data shown in the app, including information sourced from food databases and recipes created by other users, may contain errors or be out of date.
Content From Other Users and Creators
BiteCount's Social Features let adults share posts, recipes, remixes, and comments, and Discover can include content from other users and creators. This content reflects the personal views and experiences of the people who post it.
- It is not medical advice and has not been reviewed by a healthcare professional unless we clearly say so.
- BiteCount does not verify any credentials, titles, or qualifications that users or creators claim, such as dietitian, trainer, nurse, or doctor.
- Nutrition information in recipes shared by other users is entered by those users and may be wrong. Check it before relying on it.
- Some creator content may be sponsored or include products the creator is paid to promote. Sponsored content must be labeled, but you should evaluate any product or claim for yourself and ask a healthcare professional before using supplements or other health products.
- What worked for someone else - their calorie target, diet, fasting schedule, or rate of weight change - may not be safe or appropriate for you.
If you see content that promotes dangerous eating practices, disordered eating, or self-harm, please report it in the app.
Comparison, Streaks, and Your Wellbeing
Everyone's body, health, and progress are different. Streaks, badges, logging history, and other people's posts are meant to motivate you, not to measure your worth or set a standard you must meet. Please do not compare your body, your progress, or your numbers to anyone else's.
If tracking, streaks, or seeing other people's content starts to make you feel anxious, guilty, or pressured, you can hide your stats, block people, or turn off Social Features entirely in settings - and please consider talking to a professional.
If you are struggling with eating or body image, you can contact the National Alliance for Eating Disorders helpline at 1-866-662-1235. If you are thinking about suicide or self-harm, or are in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
Talk to a Healthcare Professional
Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making significant health-related decisions, including changes to your diet, calorie intake, or eating patterns, and especially before adjusting BiteCount's default calorie targets below the recommended minimum, following an approach you saw from another user or creator, or attempting any form of fasting.
Please talk to a doctor, registered dietitian, or other licensed healthcare professional before you start using BiteCount, and continue checking in with them while you use it, if any of the following applies to you:
- You are under 18 years old.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You are taking medication or managing a medical condition that diet or weight changes could affect.
- You are currently recovering from, or believe you may be at risk of, disordered eating or an eating disorder.
- You have any other health concern that calorie tracking, weight tracking, or a change in eating pattern could affect.
BiteCount is not designed to replace the care of a medical or mental health professional, and it is not an appropriate tool for everyone. If calorie or macro tracking does not feel healthy for you, please stop and speak with a professional - your wellbeing matters more than any number in the app.
Your Responsibility
BiteCount gives you tools, estimates, and information - but you are the one who decides how to use them. You are solely responsible for the health decisions you make, including whatever you choose to eat, how you set your goals, whether you act on content from other users or creators, and whether you continue using the app.
You are also responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter into BiteCount. Inaccurate inputs - such as incorrect height, weight, or activity level - will produce inaccurate outputs. If you share recipes or other content, you are responsible for making sure it is accurate and does not encourage unsafe practices.
Use your own judgment, and do not treat any target, streak, post, or recommendation in the app as more important than how you actually feel or what a healthcare professional tells you.
Who Can Use BiteCount
BiteCount is for users 13 and older. Users between 13 and 17 may use BiteCount only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian, who accepts this Health Disclaimer on the minor's behalf and takes responsibility for the minor's use of the app. Users under 18 cannot use Social Features.
Understanding and Accepting the Risks
You recognize and accept that changing your diet, body weight, or eating habits carries inherent risks. BiteCount's targets and recommendations, and content from other users and creators, are general information, not individualized clinical guidance, and following them does not guarantee any particular outcome or rule out adverse effects.
By using BiteCount, you knowingly and voluntarily accept these risks and take responsibility for the choices you make while using the app, consistent with the Health and Nutrition Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability sections of our Terms of Service.
How This Fits With Our Other Policies
This Health Disclaimer supplements, and does not replace, Section 12 (Health and Nutrition Disclaimer) of our Terms of Service. If you use BiteCount, you agree to this Disclaimer along with our full Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle the health information you provide, including what other users can and cannot see. If you live in Washington or Nevada, our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy also applies. This Disclaimer is about the limits of the information BiteCount and its community give you - not about how your data is stored or shared.
Governing Law
This Health Disclaimer is governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions, consistent with the Governing Law section of our Terms of Service.
Changes to This Disclaimer
We may update this Health Disclaimer as our practices, the app, or applicable guidance changes. When we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. If you accept the updated Disclaimer in the BiteCount app before then, it applies to you from the moment you accept. The "Last Revised" date at the top of this document always reflects the most recent update.
